Grilled Chicken and Apple Honey Wheat Pizza

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups extra-virgin olive oil, divided
  • 4 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 15 sprigs fresh thyme
  • 1 honey whole wheat pita bread
  • 2 slices smoked Gouda cheese
  • 1/4 cup Hormel® Natural Choice® Grilled Carved Chicken Breast
  • 1/2 onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup apple slices
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano leaves
  • 1 teaspoon Herdez® Jalapenos, minced

Directions:

  1. To make Garlic-Thyme Oil, in small skillet, heat 1/4 cup oil over medium-low heat. Add garlic and thyme. Cook 3 to 4 minutes, being careful not to burn garlic. Remove from heat; cool.
  2. Transfer garlic and thyme to sterilized jar or bottle. Pour remaining oil into jar. Cover tightly with lid. Let steep 2 hours before using, shaking jar periodically. Test for desired flavor. Once preferred flavor is developed, strain oil and store in refrigerator.
  3. Heat broiler.
  4. Spread 1 tablespoon Garlic-Thyme Oil over pita. Layer cheese, chicken, onion and apple on pita. Sprinkle with oregano and jalapeño. Place on baking sheet.
  5. Broil pizza 5 to 7 minutes or until cheese is melted and bubbly. For crisper crust, place pizza directly on baking rack.

Notes:


  1. Use another favorite herbed oil and skip the first two steps, if you prefer.
