The Cuban is Latin America's delicious take on our revered ham and cheese sandwich. Here, the smoky richness and sweetness of the ham is counterbalanced by the sharpness and tanginess of the whole-grain mustard and Swiss cheese. For an even more authentic version, add a little roasted pork or pickle.
Ingredients:
-
1/3 cup Peloponnese® Roasted Florina Sweet Pepper Strips, diced
-
2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
-
1 tablespoon packed brown sugar
-
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
-
1 Cuban roll, split
-
1 tablespoon whole-grain mustard
-
3 slices Hormel® Natural Choice® Smoked Deli Ham
-
2 slices Swiss cheese
-
Pickle spear
Directions:
-
To make relish, in saucepan, combine roasted peppers, vinegar, brown sugar and oil. Cook, stirring occasionally, 15 to 20 minutes or until slightly thickened.
-
Spread cut surface of roll with mustard. Layer ham, 2 tablespoons relish and the cheese on bottom half of roll. Cover with top half of roll.
-
Heat sandwich press. Coat surface of sandwich press with cooking spray.
-
Cook sandwich on sandwich press until evenly toasted and golden brown and cheese is melted. Serve with pickle, if desired.
Notes:
-
You can use prepared red pepper relish instead of making your own.
