Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 1/2 cups apple cider, divided
  • 1/4 cup cider vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons fresh thyme
  • 1 cup diced apple
  • 2 tablespoons packed brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 slices Hormel® Natural Choice® Original Bacon
  • 3 slices whole wheat bread, toasted
  • 4 slices Hormel® Natural Choice® Smoked Deli Turkey
  • 4 slices tomato
  • 2 leaves lettuce

Directions:

  1. Cook bacon according to package directions; drain on paper towels.
  2. Spread each slice toast evenly with jam. Place 2 slices turkey on 1 slice toast.
  3. Cut 1 slice bacon in half; lay 2 pieces on top of turkey. Place 2 slices tomato and 1 leaf lettuce on bacon. Top with 1 slice toast. Repeat layers.
  4. To make Apple and Onion Caramelized Jam, in medium saucepan, heat oil over medium heat. Add onion; sauté 15 to 20 minutes or until lightly golden brown. Add garlic. Cook 1 minute. Stir in 3/4 cup cider, the vinegar and thyme. Reduce heat to low; cook, stirring frequently, 30 minutes.
  5. Add apple, brown sugar, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, pepper and remaining 3/4 cup cider to saucepan. Cook, stirring frequently, 10 minutes or until apple is soft and mixture is jam-like consistency. Remove from heat. Cool completely before using. Refrigerate in airtight container.
