Nutrition Overview
HORMEL® NATURAL CHOICE® products are 100% natural with no preservatives and no artificial ingredients, no nitrites or nitrates added, and no artificial colors or flavors. They are nutritious, natural products for the whole family!
Low in Fat and Trans Fat Free
Naturally low in fat and high in nutritional value, HORMEL® NATURAL CHOICE® products, with the exception of the Uncured Bacon, contain no more than 2 grams of total fat per serving, 1 gram or less of saturated fat per serving, and 0 grams of trans fat per serving. As you know, a low fat diet, low in saturated and trans fats, is beneficial for any healthy meal plan.
While HORMEL® NATURAL CHOICE® Uncured Bacon has slightly more total fat than the other HORMEL® NATURAL CHOICE® products the majority of the fat comes from fats that are considered healthy—poly and mono-unsaturated fats.
Convenient Source of Protein
HORMEL® NATURAL CHOICE® products are a convenient source of protein, 5-12 grams per serving, which is comparable to 1-2 eggs or 2 ounces of canned light tuna.
HORMEL® NATURAL CHOICE® Oven Roasted and Grilled Carved Chicken Breast each have 12 grams of protein per serving (2 ounces).
Sodium
One serving of HORMEL® NATURAL CHOICE® products contain 200-550 milligrams of sodium (salt), which is comparable to or lower than many other deli meats in your supermarket. HORMEL® NATURAL CHOICE® Canadian Bacon is sealed with a flavor solution and contains 680 milligrams of sodium per 2 slice serving.
The 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommends that Americans consume no more than 2,000 milligrams of salt per day, which is equivalent to 3-10 servings of HORMEL® NATURAL CHOICE® products.
No MSG Added
HORMEL® NATURAL CHOICE® products contain no monosodium glutamate (MSG), a flavor enhancer typically found in processed foods such as canned soups, beef and chicken stock, flavored potato chips and snack foods.
Gluten Free
HORMEL® NATURAL CHOICE® products are gluten free. Gluten is a protein that occurs naturally in wheat and other grains such as barley, rye, and oats, and it helps to enhance the structure of certain foods. Some people may not be able to tolerate gluten, especially if they have celiac disease, also known as gluten intolerance.
People with celiac disease can enjoy HORMEL® NATURAL CHOICE® products with confidence in the knowledge that these products are gluten free.
